Fashion fad… or something freakish?

Everyone in the Giordno family is psychi–except for Daisy. When her mother, who uses her power to solve crimes, enlists Daisy’s older sister to investigate a teenage girl’s mysterious death, Daisy feels utterly useless. But she takes matters into her own hands when she learns the victim has lots of company–teenage girls are being attacked all over town, including at Nightshade High School, where Daisy is a junior. And when she discovers a vampire may be the culprit, Daisy suspects head cheerleader Samantha Devereaux, who returned from summer break with a new “look.” She looks a little… well, dead.
Is looking dead just another fashion trend for pretty, popular Samantha, or is there something more sinister afoot? Daisy will stop at nothing to find out–she even joins the cheerleading squad. And with a little sleuthing help from Ryan, an old friend (who may be turning into something more), Daisy not only reveals the identity of the vamp, she also discovers powers that she never knew she had.

I started reading this book in Wal-Mart (Wally World, if you prefer to call it), and I couldn’t put it down! So I had to buy it from there and finish it about two in the morning.. haha.

Nightshade is quite the the city–it’s pretty supernatural consisting of everything from psychics all the way to vampires and even werewolves in the middle. I could easily relate to Daisy being the outsider of her family, but not due to the not having psychic abilities. I really wanted more about Daisy’s background information; I am hoping that I’ll get to discover more about her in later books. Daisy is a determined girl who knows she won’t let something stop her from finding that person causing a certain sinister feeling and also killing people.

Dead Is The New Black is a quick, paranormal and mystery alluring read that I couldn’t put down. This story isn’t something remarkable, but it’s still a pretty good read. I am looking forward to reading the next books of this series, Dead Is A State of Mind an Dead Is So Last Year to explore and hopefully learn more about Daisy, Ryan, and the unique Nightshade city.
