the ashleysBook Title: The Ashleys
Author: Melissa de la Cruz
Number of Pages: 245
Publisher: Simon & Schuster Children’s Publishing (January 8, 2008)

The Ashleys rule Miss Gamble’s Preparatory School for Girls. They are gorgeous, rich, impeccably fashion forward, and, yes, all named Ashley. Lauren Page has gone to the same school with them her whole life, and the Ashleys, if forced to remember, might recall only a faint memory of shoving mud in the poor girl’s mouth in kindergarten.
But Lauren Page is no longer the mud-eating loser she once was. And though she has completely changed her exterior from bargain-basement cast-offs to off-the-runway couture (props, of course, to her new personal shopper) she is still the same person on the inside. And that person has had enough of the current regime.
Look out, Ashleys. There’s a new name in school.

The Ashleys reminds me of The Clique series by Lisi Harrison. Both involving a group of girls who are the “IT” girls of their school and town basically. And one girl trying to get into the group.

The Ashelys are a trio of girls who are all named Ashley, but the head Ashley is the one called Ashley while the other two have nicknames that everyone calls them by. They basically run the school, and ruin the lifes of many non-SOA (Seal of Approval) girls.

A girl, Lauren, whose had a whole summer makeover plans on getting into the clique and then destroying them. But the entry into The Ashleys is not easy, at all. Lauren’s family instantly becomes rich when a site called YourTV becomes a success. Lauren accompanied by her newfound wealth–may be enough to access the school’s elite group, but obstacles come in place, and Lauren must remain on the lookout to avoid them.

Flawless: PLL Thursday, May 28 2009

flawlessBook Title: Flawless
Author: Sara Shepard
Number of Pages: 330
Publisher: HarperTeen (February 19, 2008)

Spencer stole her sister’s boyfriend. Aria is brokenhearted over her English teacher. Emily likes her new friend Maya . . . as much more than a friend. Hanna’s obsession with looking flawless is making her sick. And their most horrible secret yet is so scandalous that the truth would ruin them forever.
And why shouldn’t I tell? They deserve to lose it all. With every crumpled note, wicked IM, and vindictive text message I send, I’ll be taking these pretty little liars down. Trust me, I’ve got enough dirt to bury them alive.

Okaay, do NOT go to wikipedia looking up the pretty little liars series; it ruins the series for you by telling you who A is when revealed in Unbelievable which I was suspicious about that person, but it didn’t have to ruin it! Sorry you guys, I hated finding out who A is.. while trying to see how many books are in the series.

So the story continues, the second book in the Pretty Little Liars series.. I personally liked Flawless better than the first book in the series. The story picks up where PLL leaves off–the day of Ali’s funeral. They are still quite shocked that their ring leader of a friend has died, and on top of that the police think it was a homicide. They all tell each other to disclose “A”‘s emails/texts to each other. They stumble on to try and figure out how “A” knows secrets that only Ali knew. The characters are more known in depth and their life stories being even more revealed along the way.

Spencer still feels the need to live up and go beyond to Melissa. Secretly seeing her sister’s ex, Wren, soon she’s realizing that he isn’t whom she thought was. Aria is back out on the dating field when her relationship with her English teacher drifts apart. Dealing with her heartbreak, she’s also dealing with the reason why her family moved to Iceland in the first place. Emily realizes her feelings for Maya, and then tries to ignore them. Her ex-boyfriend is now showing tremendous hatred towards her. Hanna is starting to drift back to her old ways of feeling overweight and insecure, not her popular, confident personality. Her dad is soon to be married again and have a new daughter, Hanna’s future step-sister, Kate. Even more drama in this girl’s lifes is added, by the darling “A” leaving them messages in public places for them now too.

Author: C.K. Kelly Martin
Number of Pages: 243
Publisher: Random House Books for Young Readers (May 26, 2009)

Fifteen-year-old Finn has always felt out of place, but suddenly her world is unraveling. It started with The Party. And Adam Porter. And the night in September that changed everything. The only person who knows about that night is Audrey—Finn’s best friend, her witness to everything, and the one person (under thirty) Finn trusts implicitly. So when Finn’s childhood friend Jersy moves back to town—reckless, beautiful Jersy, all lips and eyes and hair so soft you’d want to dip your fingers into it if you weren’t careful—Finn gives her blessing for Audrey to date him. How could she possibly say no to Audrey? With Audrey gone for the summer, though, Finn finds herself spending more and more time with Jersy, and for the first time in her life, something feels right. But Finn can’t be the girl who does this to her best friend…can she?

Finn has transformed since that one night when everything changed. She’s built up a shield on the inside that not many can get to. Only one person knows what happened that night-Finn’s best friend, Audrey. Finn feels like she can’t take anymore chances on anything.

When a former friend, Jersy, moves back, Audrey develops a crush on him. Audrey makes sure it’s okay with Finn, but Finn doesn’t say how she actually feels.. So Audrey gets the green light to date him. After awhile, Audrey’s parents ban her from dating Jersy. Then they still meet up, but use Finn as an alibi. However, Audrey and Jersy get caught. And Audrey gets sent off to her aunt’s house during summer vacation.

Emotions start to rise, when Finn hangs out with Jersy. She’s dealing with her parents splitting apart, past trauma of that one night, and realizing that she’s falling for her best friend’s boyfriend.. She turns to Jersy more than once, soon he becomes her second best friend. But then some emotions can’t be restrained.

In One Lonely Degree , Mrs. Martin takes on her first female lead voice. Her writing and ability to make characters relatable keeps you reading throughout the pages. All the supporting characters were quite believable and alive along with Finn.

Dead Is The New Black Tuesday, May 19 2009

dead is the new blackBook Title: Dead Is The New Black
Author: Marlene Perez
Number of Pages: 190
Publisher: Harcourt Paperbacks; (September 1, 2008)

Fashion fad… or something freakish?

Everyone in the Giordno family is psychi–except for Daisy. When her mother, who uses her power to solve crimes, enlists Daisy’s older sister to investigate a teenage girl’s mysterious death, Daisy feels utterly useless. But she takes matters into her own hands when she learns the victim has lots of company–teenage girls are being attacked all over town, including at Nightshade High School, where Daisy is a junior. And when she discovers a vampire may be the culprit, Daisy suspects head cheerleader Samantha Devereaux, who returned from summer break with a new “look.” She looks a little… well, dead.
Is looking dead just another fashion trend for pretty, popular Samantha, or is there something more sinister afoot? Daisy will stop at nothing to find out–she even joins the cheerleading squad. And with a little sleuthing help from Ryan, an old friend (who may be turning into something more), Daisy not only reveals the identity of the vamp, she also discovers powers that she never knew she had.

I started reading this book in Wal-Mart (Wally World, if you prefer to call it), and I couldn’t put it down! So I had to buy it from there and finish it about two in the morning.. haha.

Nightshade is quite the the city–it’s pretty supernatural consisting of everything from psychics all the way to vampires and even werewolves in the middle. I could easily relate to Daisy being the outsider of her family, but not due to the not having psychic abilities. I really wanted more about Daisy’s background information; I am hoping that I’ll get to discover more about her in later books. Daisy is a determined girl who knows she won’t let something stop her from finding that person causing a certain sinister feeling and also killing people.

Dead Is The New Black is a quick, paranormal and mystery alluring read that I couldn’t put down. This story isn’t something remarkable, but it’s still a pretty good read. I am looking forward to reading the next books of this series, Dead Is A State of Mind an Dead Is So Last Year to explore and hopefully learn more about Daisy, Ryan, and the unique Nightshade city.

Anatomy of A Boyfriend Monday, May 18 2009

anatomy of a boyfriendBook Title: Anatomy of A Boyfriend
Author: Daria Snadowsky
Number of Pages: 259
Publisher: Delacorte Books for Young Readers (January 9, 2007)

Before this all happened, the closest I’d ever come to getting physical with a guy was playing the board game Operation. Then I met Wes, a track star senior from across town. Maybe it was his soulful blue eyes, or maybe my hormones just started raging. Either way, I was hooked. And after a while, he was too. I couldn’t believe how intense my feelings became, or the fact that I was seeing—and touching—parts of the body I’d only read about in my Gray’s Anatomy textbook. You could say Wes and I experienced a lot of firsts together that spring. It was scary. It was fun. It was love.
And then came the fall.

Okay, so here’s the 411 on this book.. But first off, a warning is given to all that this is a graphic novel. So don’t complain about it being too graphic. Curious teens may pick this up for that sole reason or discovering about first love.

Back to the book, the story line/plot is pretty simple–the encounters between two people’s first relationship while soon both of them leaving for colleges. Anatomy of A Boyfriend doesn’t shy away from the fact that things most of the time [those kind of relationships] end up changing over time with or without your consent.

While at Amy’s, her best friend, track meet, Dom is helped by a mysterious guy when encountered with a slip in the grass. Amy helps find out whom he is ending up to be a track star hottie named Wes. A bond between those two forms when Dom gathers the courage to email him. They first start hanging out with groups, but then alone. The couple, Wes and Dom, go slow and steady for awhile, but then their strong feelings change that. While college soon finally comes, Dom and Wes must test their relationship strength to see if it can handle long-distance.
