heartbreak-riverBook Title: Heartbreak River
Author: Tricia Mills
Number of Pages: 248
Publisher: Razorbill (April 16, 2009)

Alex thought she’d be spending the summer focused on her family’s rafting business, burying the memories of her father’s death last year, and leaving behind all the messes she made in its wake.

But when Sean returns to town, she is forced to reckon with her mixed-up crushy feelings for him-more powerful than ever before. It takes another tragedy to make Alex realize Sean has loved her, and forgiven her, all along.

I really loved the title of this book it’s really simple but catchy too. While reading through this book, it reveals more and more about her father’s death through chapters and all is pretty much revealed at the end. You can really empathize with Alex on her grievance and guilty feelings rotating around her father’s death. Mrs. Mills’ writing takes you in, shakes up your feelings about some on-going thorny issues, and leaves you feeling swept away.

Some of the most littlest things Sean did for Alex were SO sweet. Especially, the part where Sean takes Alex out to the river to overcome her fear of a dearly, once-loved place. I also love the pace of the book; it doesn’t go too fast or too slow. It goes just right, while Mrs. Mills writing captures you into Alex’s on-going world. Hmm, Sean’s past remains a mystery. There isn’t much revealed about him or his past, just what is happening in the present.

The minor characters in this book really capture you too. Sometimes I don’t even remember the minor-ish characters names, but this book was different. Mala is Alex’s cousin/best friend. Tommy is a hot Brit who is slightly charming, but also angering at times and Alex’s friend who may consider her as more. Daniel whose nose is always in a book, kinda like me.(: Also there is Chad who isn’t much in the book except as a co-worker of Alex’s.
